May I just take this opportunity to thank you so very much for a superbly run, professional course. Although it was hard at times, I really enjoyed it. Vanessa Junginger
What did you get out of the Munich CELTA course?I got a lot out of the CELTA course. Most importantly, I now know I can make a career out of being an English teacher – with everything that means in terms of professional development and developing a network in the profession. And I now know how to develop and give good lessons, which gives me the confidence to go out and do my job. What recommendations would you make to someone thinking of doing the course?Do it. I should have done it years ago. Part-time is good if you have a family or any other kinds of commitments – and the workload (spread over the eight months of the part-time course) really isn’t that bad. The disadvantage is that the part-time course does drag on. If you can plan four or five weeks so that you don’t have any other commitments or distractions, then the full-time course would be a good idea. Before I started the course, I’d heard bad stories of terrible tutors pulling apart the CELTA trainees after the teaching practice sessions. But don’t worry – that doesn’t happen. The tutors were very supportive and very helpful, and interested in our progress. I think I learnt more in the feedback sessions than in any other part of the course. Phillip Lloyd
Thank you for your tremendous support. I feel that I learned a lot within a short period and despite the hard work I enjoyed the course thoroughly. Sonja Shove
I went into this course after having taught English as a second language for two years. Having no training in TEFL (although I have a BS in elementary education), I felt my teaching was based largely on guess work. I needed to know what I was doing correctly and to have weak areas strengthened. But first and foremost, I needed models and systematic guidance in methodology, language awareness and teaching techniques.Well, the Munich CELTA course gave me all that and more. The course itself is well organised with a good balance of theory and practice. I did the part-time course, as it is more accommodating to those who work and or must commute greater distances to Munich. As the primary aim of the course is to produce well trained EFL teachers, it wasn’t a walk in the park; however worthwhile endeavors rarely are. A good deal of thought and work went into the lesson plans and written assignments, with the result being an EFL teacher who can map out and carry out effective lessons.Apart from the expertise and learner-first approach of the tutors, I also got to work with a great lot of classmates. The team teaching aspect of the course enabled me to expand my interpersonal skills and make lasting friendships. All in all it was a wonderful and fulfilling time that has left a lasting impression on my work and professional relationships. Good luck! Suzanne Osterburg
What did you get out of the Munich CELTA course? CELTA was excellent for me. It opened my eyes to the joy and rewards of teaching. It was hard work, but worth every moment. I gained so much insight and confidence and have used the techniques I learned on many occasions since. Having a CELTA qualification really does open lots of doors that might otherwise have been shut. I am very glad I did it.What recommendations would you make to someone thinking of doing the course? My advice for anyone considering CELTA, especially the full-time course, is to be fully prepared for your life to go ‘on hold’ for 4 or 5 weeks. It really does take up every second of every day. If you start the course knowing that CELTA will be your main focus for those weeks, then you'll love it. That time out of a lifetime really isn't very much to achieve something you want to do. Get good friends around you to help you out (especially if you have a family) and enjoy the ride!! Marty Brogan
I miss Munich CELTA Fridays very much. I really got a lot out of the course, and I hope it will run for a long time. Alexandra Fahr
What did you get out of the Munich CELTA course? The opportunity to learn about what teaching really is in a very professional, but relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It gave me the chance to learn a lot about myself and meet some really great people (both tutors and fellow trainees). Course days were the highlight of my week. What recommendations would you make to anyone thinking of taking the course?Just do it! Be prepared for some hard work and some heartache, but try to enjoy it, it's really worth it. Be prepared to take the suggestions (and the criticisms) on board, you really learn from them and they help you become a better teacher (and person)! Sarah Lewis-Schätz
The course rounded off some rough edges I had, even after about nine years of teaching business and non-business English; it made my teaching leaner, 'tighter' (at least, I hope so!) and now I feel I have a better sense of structure- I'm simply more clearly aware of many things going on when I'm teaching, and I sometimes practice 'watching' myself in the classroom: self-evaluation, basically. What did you get out of the Munich CELTA course?I think the most valuable thing I got out of CELTA was the confidence I gained. Knowing that I am now officially qualified to do what I am doing makes a world of difference when standing in front of a class of sixteen learners. What recommendations would you make to someone thinking of doing the course?I would strongly suggest that anyone thinking of doing the course first try to get a little experience of teaching, to see if they do in fact like the profession. Bringing some experience into the course can really help to consolidate the theories and techniques being covered. Jason Chan
